How Many Pizza Places are there in Venice?

There’s a long running joke in our house that Venice Foodies started because when we moved here, all the restaurants we could find served Italian and Pizza. In fact, as of September 2022, I’ve counted 25 different pizzerias between Venice, Nokomis and Osprey! This does not include any chains such as Marcos, Papa Johns, Dominos, Hungry Howies or Little Caesars, which we have throughout our area as well. Each one has it’s own spin on things and serves a specific flavor profile for different people.

Our Personal Opinion For Pizza in Venice

There are a few places around town that we LOVE when it comes to pizza. We try to rotate between a few, because we like different styles and toppings depending on the location. To understand my preferences with pizza, you need to understand my background. I grew up in North Jersey. For me, I love the thinner crust that has just the right balance of crunch and chew, that can hold up on its own with toppings when it’s folded over (No Flop!) Another rule of thumb is it should still taste good cold for breakfast the next morning. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Big Mike’s – The King Neptune pizza – Shrimp, Calamari, Mussels and Clams
  • Mama Maria’s – Anytime I need just a basic pizza fix, the crust is one of my favorites. It has the crunch/chew balance I need and the sauce is seasoned just right.
  • Pizza Boss – When you need weird pizza toppings… Pizza Boss to the rescue. Jason is a big fan of the Frisco Pizza, which comes with creamy thousand island dressing, crumbly chunks of hamburger beef and covered with cheese.
  • Made in Italy – Wood fired pizza is best eaten right out of the oven, so when we go out for pizza, Made in Italy is the best spot to be!
  • BrewzaBagels – My daughter is in LOVE with their Pizza Bagels! They are a great treat for lunch, as it’s a half of a bagel with toppings between $1.99-$2.99. She gets the plain Bagelizza while my husband goes for the Kitchen Sink Za which is loaded with bacon, sausage, ham, pepperoni and mozzarella cheese.
  • Venezia Restaurant – This was a surprise. I never expected to find a stove oven pizza inside of a hotel with that much flavor in the crust. Nice and crispy, great chew on the end crust, with a flavorful sauce and cheese blend.

Foodies say: The best pizza in Venice is at Allegro. IMO. Crust is floury and crisp at the edges, not chewy. Sauce is salty. Not paste thick or sweet. Cheese is not dried out or overly stringy. Toppings are fresh. There isn’t a ton of grease sitting on top of the pie either. Tastes homemade and fresh. I don’t generally eat anything else there. Just the pizza. – Carrie M

  1. Maureen Fox says:

Made In Italy has fantastic pizzas, but their prices are pretty high. My number one pizza in Venice would be Sicilia, a family-run place that makes a delicious pie. The only detraction is that, since it’s such a small operation, they’re not open until 3pm. Open Wednesday-Mondays. We’ve tried several other places with decent pizza, but it’s very hard to find one like our favorites in New Haven, CT. I can recommend Bocca Lupo, Valenti’s Bistro & Big Mike’s, but Sicilia would be my choice overall.
