What is a Paczki?

A Paczki (pronounced “poonsh-kee”) is a deep-fried Polish doughnut that’s filled with jam or other sweet fillings. They are usually topped with powdered sugar and are said to be one of the most delicious treats ever enjoyed! Paczki were originally made to use the remaining ingredients not allowed during Lent, such as lard, eggs, fruits, and sugar. The dough is usually prepared with butter, yet in order to consume the lard prior to the start of Lent, it was traditionally fried in lard.

  • Apricot
  • Black Raspberry
  • Blueberry
  • Cheese
  • Chocolate

What is the Difference Between Paczki and Donuts?

Paczki and donuts differ in terms of the components of the dough. Paczki dough contains more enriching components, such as yeast, grain alcohol, and high-gluten flour. This combination yields a richer-than-brioche dough that is dense and does not crumble easily. Furthermore, the grain alcohol used in Paczki prevents the dough from soaking up too much oil during the frying process.

In comparison to paczki, numerous donut varieties contain cake or pastry flour, minimal amounts of enriching components, and baking powder or baking soda in lieu of yeast. As a result, they have a crumblier texture and are not as flavorful.

When it comes to recognizing Fat Tuesday, there is no better way to indulge than with Paczki Day. These scrumptious, decadent treats are a must-have for the occasion. Make sure to be the first in line and stock up with a couple of boxes.
